The legend of Malin Kundang tells about a man who is rebellious to his mother because it was cursed to be stone. A stone in Air Manis beach, padang, supposedly the remains of Malin Kundang's ship. One upon a time, in West Sumatra, there lived a poor woman and her son named Malin Kundang. Everyday, they was fishing for fulfill daily needs. When Malin grow up, he invited neighbor to go to city center for wander. His mother didn't allow, several times malin was sad. When his mother knew that malin sad, finally she let him to go wander with gracefully.
Next day, "Malin my son, don't forget your mother although you far away from me. I always pray to God for your safety and health." said mother.
"Yes mom, don't worry, i would be carefull" said malin.
"kept your selft son" said his mother with cried.
several month later, his mother felt alone and very missed to her son, because Malin didn't visit her. "Where are you son, I miss you so much" in her mind. She always pray to God and asked when malin visited her.
one years later, she heard Malin success in there. "Ma'am, your son successfull in her job, now he was a rich person" said neighbor. "That is true? Oh my son, you very greated" the pleasure his mother said.When she came house, she felt sad. If her son had success in there, why he didn't visit her. In mother think, she want to go to visit malin.
The next day, she went to the city. she was not know where malin house. When she walked towards the ship she saw Malin and called him "Malin!! My son!!" scream her mother. Malin knew that is his mother but he ignored her. His mother verry sad, but she stayed in there, waited Malin in the next day.
Next day, Malin came with his wife, his mother knew "Malin?" her mother said. Malin was shocking and his wife asked Malin "Who is she?" asked his wife. Malin confused and his mother answered, "I'am his mother" said his mother. "It is true?", "Not true, my mother was died" said malin. His mother sad and she was angrily put out curse word "You lawlessness, you don't acknowledge me as your mother, God curse him into stone". The sky was cloudy, the winds roared and the sound of lightning struck. Slowly, Malin became stone and the rain fall out.
This story told people to be humbles and don't forget his familly after being successfull.
